Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday fixed 10,640 polling stations and 18,572 polling centres across the country for the upcoming local polls.

Surprisingly, the election body has reduced the number of polling centres this time compared to that of Constituent Assembly (CA) elections in 2013 when there were 19,875 polling centres.
"We reduced the polling centres because people's settlements have concentrated in certain areas compared to scattered settlements in 2013," said Nawaraj Dhakal, joint secretary at the EC.
According to the EC, one polling centre will cover from minimum 23 voters to maximum 1064 voters.
Polling centres, which are located within polling stations, are the place where people will cast their votes.
The largest number of polling centre is in Kathmandu. The EC has fixed 686 polling centres in Kathmandu and the lowest in Manang with 28 polling centres.

There are 669 polling centres in Morang and 637 in Jhapa as per the EC.
Of the total voters of 14,054,482, Kathmandu has the largest number of voters-559400 followed by Morang with 563,870 and Jhapa with 510,216
