Aug 13, 2017- Hundreds of family have been left in lurch due to flood waters in Bara district after rivers in the district flooded following heavy rainfall. They have been requesting for rescue and relief by calling concerned stakeholders and posting in social networks.
Around one hundred families of Chiljhapati in Prasauni Rural Municipality-3 and 4 have been stranded in floods.
The village is submerged due floods in Bangari River early Sunday. Flood waters have entered the villagers’ houses, forcing them to take refuse at the neighbours’ concrete houses, said on local Bikram Raut. Around 10 houses have been swept by flood. Locals said they have not received relief from anywhere despite the call for help.
In a separate incident, locals of Bhawara village in Kalaiya Municipality have been taking shelter at local school after the village submerged in floods. The floods in Pasaha River entered the villaged.
The Kalaiya-Birgunj road has submerged up to 5 feet at Prasaini due to floods at Bangari rivulet and the local administration has prohibited the people from going to the road.
Locals have opened the water outlet at Gandak Barrage that was shut for years.
SP Rajkumar Baidya, who returned after a visit to different places in the district, said around 20,000 houses have been inundated.
According chief of Prime Minister Fish Superzone Project, Yugal Kishor Tiwari, fishes from hundreds of ponds in the district have been swept and it has caused millions of rupees in losses to local farmers.
Villages have been cut off from each other as the transportation came to a grinding halt as the floods swept dozens of bridges in the district, while the electricity distribution have been affected as the electricity poles have toppled.
Chief District Education Officer Dhana Prasad Pokharel has issued a directive to shut the schools in the flood affected area.
